Program

Date 12 July, 2016 (TUE) 15:30 - 17:00
Venue Lecture Room No.8, School of Agricultural Sciences, Nagoya University
Speaker Prof. Juichi ITANI
(Deputy Director, The Center for African Area Studies, Kyoto University)
Language Japanese

African countries have achieved rapid economic growth after mid-2000s because of the price escalation of mineral resources at the world market. On the other hand, stagnation of rural economy has led to national-level environmental degradation and energy deficit. Stabilization of livelihood in rural areas is indispensable for solution of the environmental and energy problems. In this seminar, I show the activities related to environmental conservation, food production and activation of rural economy into a practical model of cyclical natural resource use, and point out an importance of holistic approach for rural development in Africa.
